FAQs

What is the difference between Tiers 1 and 2 for each course?

Tier 1 for each course is an educational course that takes you through the details of the topic for that course. It goes through step by step and describes the methodology and practical knowledge you need to acieve success for work related to that topic. It does not, however, certify you in that particular field of study.

Tier 2 contains a more rigorous examination of the subject matter. There is a larger and tougher written exam, and in some cases a performance exam that requires you to physically show that you have an understanding of the topic. Completion of Tier 2 certifies you in that particular field of study.

What do I need to know for each course?

Under the description of each course, there are prerequisites listed. Take some time to review each course description to ensure you are prepared to take the course. This includes a listing of all materials you will need (books, guidelines, equipment, etc.) as well.

What if I don't have some of those materials?

The ICRI bookstore has most of what you need in terms of reference material. The course description should also include a link to any other items you need and where to access them (or where to purchase, if need be).

What happens if I take the course, and I fail?

If you took any course offered, and did not pass according to the criteria of that particular module or course, you may purchase the re-examination option listed in the course catalog. This option is a cheaper way to take the course again and continue your progress toward certification.

I passed! Where do I get my certificate(s)?

For any course, you may look under the My Learning Tab at the top of the page. This will list the course you are taking. There is a tab there labeled "Grades" that includes the progress and status of any course. For Tier 1 courses that you have passed, you will see an option to print out a certificate of achievement. (Note: a certificate of achievement is NOT a certification. It recognizes that you have completed Tier 1 for that course). You may also download a transcript of all the courses you have taken.

Since Tier 2 is graded manually, you may also check this location to see if your test has been graded. If you passed, we will send you a letter in the mail with any further instructions regarding the certification.

I took a test and don't see my results posted.

Tier 2 exams are reviewed by subject matter experts. This can take some time to receive, review, and report on each submission. This can take up to four to six weeks. Once the information about each test taker's results, it is posted in the My Learning area. ICRI will also send you an email or letter informing you of your test results.

If you completed a Tier 1 course, but are not seeing the result, email us at certification@icri.org and let us know. It's possible the page hasn't updated just yet, or that you have not completed all the portions of the course.
